There might be a need or desire to migrate the information held in a Zendesk Help Desk database to an alternative Zendesk instance.
For example, it is possible that the information collated during testing and evaluation within a Sandbox is considered relevant and suitable for use in the live environment.
The Zendesk Migration Utility makes this possible.
Select the Action Type
Select "Migrate" from the list of available Actions.
Enter the Export Parameters
- Select "Zendesk" from the combo box.
- Enter the URL that points to your Zendesk environment holding the information to be migrated (Note: the URL must be the fully qualified domain name, including the HTTP:// prefix).
- Enter the your User name used to log into this Zendesk instance.
- Enter your corresponding password.
- Select whether to export only those Tickets that are "Active", or "All" to migrate the entire history of tickets in the Kayako database, regardless of current status.
Specify the Scope of the Export
- Select an option from the combo box to determine if only information pertaining to Forums and associated items ("Knowledge Base"), Tickets and associated items ("Tickets"), or information pertaining to all items ("All") held within the source Zendesk database should be exported.
Enter the Import Parameters
- Enter the URL that points to your Zendesk environment into which the information should be imported (Note: the URL must be the fully qualified domain name, including the HTTP:// prefix).
- Enter your User Name used to log into Zendesk.
- Enter the your Zendesk password.
Run the Migration
** WARNING ** Before running the migration be sure to roll back the results of any previously aborted or incorrectly executed operation (see Deleting Imported Data).
- Select the "Migrate" button to invoke the migration.
The utility will now connect with your source Zendesk Help Desk via the API using the supplied credentials and export the information pertaining to Tickets and Forums, then import the information into your target Zendesk database.
Progress can and should be monitored and successful completion confirmed using the screens and messages displayed once the migration is running (see Monitoring Progress of a Migration).
